The last traditional speaker of the Eyak language died yesterday

Not a particularly good start to the International Year of Languages – the last traditional speaker of the Na-DenĂ© Eyak language died yesterday, making the language extinct.

Goodbye Chief Marie Smith Jones, and goodbye Eyak.
