Stoclet-Fries: Lebensbaum (Werkvorlage), (1905/09) by Gustav Klimt. (Full image)
Quite aside from its cool treeness, I love Klimt, and this is probably my fave of his. The other two panels with the figures stand in their own right, but this has a wonderful sense of being at the centre and interconnected to all things.
If I ever got another tattoo it might be a riff on the owl.

It just happens, Simon, that I’ve looked up your website again today, after some absence. It’s good stuff, and I just had the urge to comment - it’s not a spam attack.
———————————————-
Klimt was very, very good at ’sensualising’ middle aged ladies (not, definitely not, sexing-up - ie his paintings make you want to talk to her, not to throw her over the bed and f*** her)
But his science wasn’t so good - look at the little bits up and down the tree where branches somehow have cross-links.
And look at all those little bits between branches that he’s painted over.
Reminds me of comparative linguistics.

Richard
